The basics

Home to over 1.4 million books, manuscripts, and other rare holdings, the John Rylands Library is also known for its architectural beauty. Its Special Collections comprise a trove of priceless objects; including a papyrus fragment of the Gospel of John, a Gutenberg Bible, and medieval illuminated manuscripts. Its architectural highlights include the grand Historic Entrance Hall; and the Historic Reading Room, which resembles a church. Now part of the University of Manchester, the John Rylands Library is used by students and researchers, and is also open to members of the public.
