The Basics

Visitors come to the Secret Lagoon to bathe in its geothermal pool and the steamy waters are naturally heated to between 100–104˚F (38–40˚C) year-round. Secret Lagoon tours from Reykjavik often include a visit to the Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall, the Geysir geyser, or other attractions in the Golden Circle area.

Goumy the greatest tour guide
The driver/tour guide Goumy I think is his nickname, he was an absolute star, he took us all around the golden circle and stopped of at all the places and showed us lots of extra stuff along the way with more facts than my brain could handle! He was best tour guide I ever had! The time we spent at locations was way more than the hour it states so well worth going with him! I would go again 100% if I ever return!!

Golden Circle and Secret Lagoon Day Tour with Kerid Crater from Reykjavik
Absolutely amazing day, saw so many beautiful locations and learnt so much about Iceland! Our guide, Asgeir/Ice man, was so brilliant and handled the mini snow storm so well in the morning. Would thoroughly recommend to everyone!

Golden Circle and Secret Lagoon Full Day Tour from Reykjavik by Minibus
Bjorn is an amazing tour guide. Very knowledgeable and quite funny. He made our tour wholly worthwhile. The Secret Lagoon and the stop at the farm for homemade ice cream were the bomb.

Golden Circle and Secret Lagoon Day Tour with Kerid Crater from Reykjavik
I think our guide made our tour this special and unique. He was amazing in his story telling, in his relaxed approach; made sure we get the most out of it and showed us more sceneries because we had extra time. The secret lagoon was great , relaxed and chilled vibe.

Snowmobiling on Langjökull Glacier, Ice Cave and Bathing in the Secret Lagoon
I’ve always wanted to snowmobile so I thought what cooler way than on a glacier and it did not disappoint. The views were so beautiful. We lucked out and had a very sunny day. Magnus was our guide and he was great.

Golden Circle and Secret Lagoon Tour from Reykjavík
The guide told us a lot about Island, the history and how it is nowadays. When the weather changed and there was a lot of snow he was calm and drove nicely and easy. He was positive and cunning. The places we went to were great. A very good excursion!

Skip the Line: Secret Lagoon Entrance Ticket
We booked the Ticket two days before. Because of bad weather, we arrived two hours earlier than booking time. This was no problem. The service team was friendly and helpful. The cafe is nice and offers snacks and sweets. The bath has a proper locker room and shower. The water temperature is just right. Around noon (in September) there were less people, while later, about 2 pm, it was more crowded. We can recommend to book in advance.

Small-Group Golden Circle Tour and Secret Lagoon Visit from Reykjavik
Our tour guide Jakob. He talked about what we were seeing, going to see and gave all sorts stories and knew everything you’d want to know about Iceland. He really was great! At the stops he’d get out with us and explain what was at the sights. Only 6 in tour made it nice also

Golden Circle Platinum Secret Lagoon and Friðheimar Tomato Greenhouse Lunch
What an amazing tour! We were lucky enough to have Ryan, one of the co-owners of Hidden Iceland, as our tour guide, and he was wonderful! The Golden Circle stops were breathtaking. The tomato greenhouse was unbelievable - definitely the best tomato soup in the world! Ending our day at Secret Lagoon was perfect. It was so nice to be in a small group and get to know the other tour members and not feel shuffled along on a big bus. Highly recommend this tour and any others by Hidden Iceland!

Golden Circle and Secret Lagoon Day Tour with Kerid Crater from Reykjavik
Sites were excellent. Lots to see and do. Secret Lagoon was a nice addition to the traditional Golden Circle. Tour Guide could have been better - did not provide much background on Iceland or about the attractions.

How to Get There

The Secret Lagoon is located in the small village of Fludir in the Golden Circle area of South Iceland, about 60 miles (97 kilometers) east of Reykjavik. The only way to get there is by road, so those without their own transport can either take a taxi or visit as part of a tour.

When to Get There

The Secret Lagoon is open year-round, although opening times vary with the seasons. Visiting in the morning or early afternoon is the best time to avoid the crowds.

Northern Lights and Midnight Sun

While the geothermal area around the Secret Lagoon is a prime viewing spot for the seasonal phenomena of the Northern Lights (winter) and the Midnight Sun (summer), the swimming pool itself is only open until 8pm in winter and 10pm in summer. Many tours combine an atmospheric evening swim in the lagoon with a Northern Lights viewing safari or a tour of the Golden Circle beneath the light of the Midnight Sun.
