Excellent Wine Tour and Guide

We had a fantastic day with our tour guide Mariela! She was so knowledgeable and friendly. We loved being in a small group and were so impressed with the wineries that we visited that we had several bottle shipped back to the US. Also, the lunch was absolute perfection and one that I will be thinking about for many years to come! Would not miss out on this tour!
Wonderful wine, scenery and lunch!

We had a fantastic time visiting boutique wineries and having lunch in the Priorat region. Samuel was a wonderful guide and driver, and gave us the history of Priorat as well as some of the other wine regions we passed through on the way. All 3 wineries we visited had at least one red wine that I found exceptional (I'm not much of a white wine drinker, so am a poor judge of those), and I thoroughly enjoyed ALL the reds at 2 of the 3 wineries. We enjoyed visiting the grape fields and learning about the history, the region, the grapes, and the wine. Lunch at the second winery was delicious with several options for every taste, with plenty of very good wine to complement the delicious food. Clos Dominic, a small family run winery was our favorite, with outstanding wines and a fantastic tasting experience. I would definitely do this excursion again on a future visit, and recommend it to anyone who enjoys wine.
Fun day in Priorat Wine Region

Samuel was a fantastic guide. He was personable, engaging, and extremely knowledgeable. Definitely recommend anyone taking this tour ask for him as your guide. Lunch and our second wine tasting at Clos Figueras was excellent with everyone given a couple of options for food to pair with the wines. The tasting at Pasanau was probably my favorite with a walk to the vineyards before tasting several of their wines. Our final tasting was at Cellar Devinssi. The guide there was great and we enjoyed seeing the differences in the vineyards as compared to Pasanau. At the end of the day, we had a few bottles from Pasanau shipped home and a truly enjoyable day with our hosts from the wineries and Samuel. Thank you Viator for another great tour.

We came on this tour on our last day in Barcelona for our honeymoon. It was the best time to end our time in Barcelona. We cannot recommend this tour enough. Samuel, our guide, was knowledgeable, entertaining and a great host! The wineries were beautiful, with fantastic wine and had a fascinating history that was told by each wine maker with unparalleled passion. Our lunch was also delicious. We have already recommended this tour to multiple people who are heading to Barcelona. Thank you for an amazing experience!!

10/10 would recommend this trip to anyone who can make it! Craig was incredible - he was engaging, knowledgeable, and so much fun. The vineyards we toured were gorgeous, the lunch was one of the best while we had in Spain, and the wine was truly delicious! We loved the vineyards so much we brought a bottle of wine back from each location. Truly one of our favorite days while honeymooning in Spain.
Response from Host , Apr 2022
Hi Emma! It's so good to know we were able to contribute to you having a great honeymoon in Spain. We agree that Craig is an incredible guide and the Priorat visits and wine are well worth it!
Thank you so much for taking the time to recommend us, and all the best to you and your husband :)

Excellent day in Priorat!

What a great day in the Priorat region! We had not previously tried Priorat wines and really enjoyed them. Our guide, Samuel, was very knowledgeable about the area and the wines, and was very easy to talk to all day. From stopping for coffee in the little village on the way, to a wonderful lunch and wine-tasting at Clos Figueres, and finishing with the 100+ year old vines at Clos Dominic, this was a great day! Samuel helped us arrange the shipping back to the USA of some wines we bought - which was a great service and very much appreciated. If you want a great day of wine tasting with an excellent guide, then this tour is highly recommended - and ask for Samuel!!

Wine paradise for a day!

Samuel was an awesome guide, sharing history and stories of the region during the drive to Priorat. Views were stunning, as well as walks through the vineyards and tasting different types of grapes straight from the vines—-some of which were over 100 years old! Plenty of great wine tastings at three vineyards & a fantastic lunch. Small group with great conversation throughout the day.
The whole experience!

One the best wine tour that I had.
Our guide Graig M was amazing- very knowledgeable and he tried to make sure that everybody in our small group had the great time.
We visited 3 small winery and two owners spent a lot of time with us and were were passionate about their wineries and business. I will say that the first small winery Pasanau there me tried 5 wine with snacks was my favorite. We visited the field and that hiking and scenery were beautiful.
Then we headed to the second winery Clos Figueras Serras Del Priorat and had our lunch outside on the lovely patio. I believe that we tried 4 wines their. Lunch was good however the girl who was bringing and representing the wine for us was very rushy, talked very fast and seems to be annoyed with the additional questions. I felt that she wants to be done with use as soon as she can. In my opinion if you represent the brand but do not like your job you should not work there. It was probably only one unpleasant thing about whole trip.
After that we visited the 3d winery Mas Sinen. The ower was pretty cool and we had very good time there.
Thank you Craig!! It was great meeting you.

This was one of the best tours we have ever experienced, including that our guide Andrew is a consummate professional with in-depth knowledge of every aspect of the tour. This was a small group tour with 6 people which made for a very intimate day enjoying this unique wine region. The selected wineries offered a most unique experience, including meeting and discussing their wines and facilities and histories with the owner/operators of these boutique places.

We ended up taking a private tour as there were no other guests on our trip. Our guide Andrew was knowledgeable not only about Priorat terroir and wineries but also about Catalonian history and culture that made our day-long conversation pleasant and informative. Andrews personal relationships with the winemakers made our day a joyful and insightful experience.
Our first stop was the village of Cornudella de Montsant where Andrew treated us to Ranci dessert wine made from Grenache with local almond tart. Ranci is an after dinner drink but it tasted just as great after breakfast.
Our second stop was Village of La Morera where winemaker extraordinaire Ricard Pasanau at Celler Pasanau does his magic. Ricard first gave a tour of one of his vineyards where we got to learn about his organic farming methods. La Morera is the highest municipality of Priorat, with vineyards next to the mountain of Sierra de Montsant. While Andrew was preparing the naughty nibbles for our winetasting, Ricard gave a personal tour of his winery where we got to learn his natural winemaking process honed over the years. On the way to the Pasanau cellar, we learned about the history of the village that lost most of its population gradually starting with the onset of phylloxera around 1,872.
Naughy nibbles turned out to be a delicious feast of local bread, cheese, ham, fruits, nut, olives, and olive oil that Andrew picked up at Cornudella de Montsant. We tasted 2016 Danae Viognier, 2016 Les Myriams Viognier, 2014 La Morera de Montsant, 2008 El Vell Coster, 2012 Los Torrents, 2006 Finca La Planeta. It was hard to pick a favorite as these wines were all excellent. El Vell Coster 100 Carignan and Los Torrents 50 Grenache, 50 Carignan were simply exceptional.
We had lunch at Christopher Cannans winery, Clos Figueres. After a quick cellar tour, we had a delicious lunch paired with Clos Figueres 2016 Serrat Del Priorat, 15 Font De La Figuera, and 2014 Clos Figueras. Ham selections and lamb chops were delectable.
Our last winery was Clos Dominic. We met winemaker Paco at his steep vineyard that can only be harvested by hand. Afterwards we tasted 2015 Clos Peto, 2013 Vinyes Baixes, 2014 Vinyes Altes at Paco's cellar. Each of these wines were excellent with Carignan and Grenache blend Vinyes Altes being exceptional. We had a nice conversation about his philosophy to life in general, and winemaking in particular.
Priorat winemakers were proud of their mastery of this challenging terrain to produce terroir driven world-class wines. Thanks to Andrew, we got a front seat experience. Highly recommended.

Our guide Andrew knew a lot about wine and was very familiar with the winemakers. He paired the wines with local foods he bought and served from local stores and restaurants. Even the van ride went fast due to the detailed history of the region he supplied. The wine was excellent and the winemakers were engaging.

This is one of the best tours we have ever been on with some of the best wine we've ever had. Andrew was an amazing tour guide, incredibly knowledgeable and personable. We learned a lot from him about the Priorat wine region's history and current production practices as well as Catalonian history and culture. The tour at Pasanau was excellent, with knowledgable winery staff including the owner taking us into the vineyard and explaining the terroir local and throughout the Priorat and winemaking process before we had our tasting. During that tasting of five delicious wines and an estate olive oil, Andrew provided an amazing spread of local fruits, nuts, cheeses, and bread. I almost wasn't hungry for lunch!
Lunch was at the second winery, Clos Figueres. There, we had a quick cellar tour and then the wine tasting was paired with a delicious three-course lunch. We were there during harvest, so the winemaker was busy and understandably unavailable to participate in our tasting.
After lunch we went to Clos Dominic. We took a brief tour of the vineyards to understand the challenging terrain on which some of the oldest Priorat vines grow. After seeing the vines, we visited the cellar and tasted three of Paco's world-class wines. Understanding where in the vineyard each of the wines was grown gave us a good appreciation of how the steep hillside, differing ages of the vines, and rocky soil contributed to the taste of each wine.
We've been to Napa/Sonoma, the Loire Valley, and Bordeaux and this tour and these wines are as good as any we've had.
