Tour of Giants Causeway and Castles and sights of Northern Ireland

This was an enjoyable tour which covered a lot of miles and allowed us to see a great variety of sights. Our tour guide provided plenty of information about the various sights...I enjoyed the Giants Causeway and the walk to get to it, however, I felt the tour guide might have provided a bit more information about the time required to walk to the causeway and back...as, after using the restrooms, we found that we had enough time to walk to the causeway, spend about 5 minutes there before having to head back to rejoin the tour group for the departure to the next stop. As I recall, there was a toilet on the coach but it was either out of order or, was locked to prevent usage. Had this been available, the line ups at the public toilets may have been smaller and may have allowed more time to spend at the stops. Many of the sights were just drive byes or, very brief stops to catch a view. The most disappointing was the stop to view the Rope Bridge at Carrick-a-Rede. The view point provided a beautiful but very distant view of the bridge and I had been anticipating that we would be able to walk across the bridge. The tour description was vague regarding the ability to walk the bridge and my inquiries resulted in variable answers but as it turned out, coach tours are not allowed to walk the bridge. The tour guide provided copious Historical information about the sights we saw and this was all very interesting...and it was apparent that he loves the historical aspects of the tour and history is his thing. While I felt that this was great information, I would have loved to have had more anecdotal information about the area mixed in with the historical details, almost none of which I will be able to remember! As an example, he pointed out the homes of two professional golfers which was of great interest to me having watched those golfers on the PGA Tour for many years. The tour finished in the area of Belfast where the troubles of the past were evident and this was very interesting to actually see first hand. I felt the tour provided very good value for the cost.

A great day on Ireland’s coast.

The stop along the coast before we got to the Causeway was spectacular - it was exactly what I thought Ireland would look like. The Giants Causeway was amazing and fun to explore. It was great fun to stop for lunch at Donnely’s: a typical Irish pup and the food was great. The bus trip was comfortable and our guide was excellent. We enjoyed the stop for I e cream and the tour of Belfast.
I hope the bus we were on gets repaired. We were stuck out in the rain because of a faulty door and the defrost system was nonexistent. Thank goodness we had an experienced driver who handled it well and got us back safely.
Great tour

This was one of the best shore excursions we have experienced in many years of cruising. Our tour guide, Martin Campbell, was extremely knowledgeable, with an in-depth knowledge of Irish history, customs and culture. A master communicator, he provided information in a clear, friendly manner. Our most capable driver, ‘Paddy’, added to the overall enjoyment of the tour.
Stunning

Take this rather than the tour offered through ships excursions.

This is the exact same tour that was offered on our ship, but almost half the price. The only difference was we didn't get the museum pass and the audio device at the Giant's Causeway (neither of which we were interested in). Our guide was excellent (some of our guides from tours offered though the ship were difficult to understand, but not here). The bus was modern and comfortable. We we not rushed like we were on the ship tours. Highly recommend.
Wonderful trip. Save money, book off ship.

The scenery at the causeway was magnificent and drive out was beautiful. However, our guide, Gail, gave very little information to us and when she did, she read it to us. She spent over 95 % of the time talking to the bus driver. We had to ask her to give us some info the country and customs, but she only gave us minimal info. Very disappointing guide for this tour. She was more focused on the bus driver’s life story than giving information to the tourist.
Response from Host , Jul 2022
Hello Eddie
Sorry you felt Guide was not giving enough information.
Gail has been working for our company for many years, and we are shocked to hear she would have to refer to notes after several hundred tours. Paddy and Gail work well together and have just received two 5 star reviews from the same tour. We try to encourage our guides not to constantly talk and allow enough time to take in the beautiful scenery and we even limit Paddy's singing to at most two songs. Sorry you were disappointed with the commentary. We will take onboard your comments and attempt in future to find a happy medium to suit everyone.
Thank you
Excellent shore excursion

This was an excellent shore excursion (Odyssey Coach Tours). The only constructive feedback I have is to station a host/guide near the gangway of incoming ships so passengers can be guided to the correct coach bus upon arrival. Timelines are tight for shore excursions, and providing a host in clear view directing passengers to the Odyssey bus would have been more effective. We are seasoned (and organized) travellers and still struggled to find the appropriate coach bus after disembarking the ship in port. Everything else was great; the coastal drive was GORGEOUS, and we made plenty of stops for photos and exploring along the way. There were restrooms at most stops and places to grab a bite to eat. The Diamond Bar in Ballycastle was phenomenal- I highly recommend the local fish & chips and the seafood chowder.
PS. If booking an excursion on a Sunday be advised that many local shops are closed.
Giant’s Causeway was Supposed to be the Way

, Jul 2022
The tour was supposed to center on the jewel of the itinerary, the Giant’s Causeway - but instead the tour guide shortchanged the time at the Giant’s Causeway and invested that in an unnecessary lunch stop and a lecture on Belfast and the Peace Walls. The other gem was supposed to visit the rope bridge, but the tour guide said it was closed because of winds and took us to a vantage that barely revealed the bridge. The description of the tour and what it would entail and what it actually encompassed was woefully at odds.
Response from Host , Jul 2022
Hello Ali
Not sure you have the correct company.
We do not have the rope bridge on our itinerary.
Our tours follow the itinerary listed which does included a stop for lunch and a city highlights tour. Individual passengers do not get to choose which parts of the tour they would like to leave out as our tours are shared tours

A fantastic tour and our guide provided a lot of historical information. We enjoyed lunch at the Diamond Bar in Ballycastle! The views on the coast were fantastic and so glad we went. The walk to the causeway was longer than we thought. We are active seniors so no problem but if you have mobility issues you might need to take the bus from the information center and that will require some time.
We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.
