Not for beginners
Donnell_H
, Aug 2022
I liked the idea of the tour;however, this is not a tour for beginners. Instructions were given at the beginning of the the tour for safety. There was little lightning along the canal and it light on the kayak didn’t properly see the tree branches, stumps , etc. There were several other group making the area hard to navigate. The glow was nice to see when we finally got to open waters.
Response from Host , Aug 2022
Dear Donnell_H,
Thank you for writing about your experience with us, it is very important to us. I’m sorry that you felt that way. I know sometimes the mangrove canal gets crazy with kayaks coming and going.
To our future adventurers, we strongly recommend to read carefully the information and recommendations in our webpage. In there, we explain what to expect, like darkness, traffic in the canal, and recommendations for beginners. The canal cannot be light up too much to prevent disturbing the wildlife.
Please, feel free to contact us anytime with any questions or doubts.
Respectfully,
Yolanda Ramos

Neat.. but..
James_D
, Jul 2022
I would say this a neat experience … but … there are multiple tour companies that take large tours out through a long, windy canal. It is very difficult to see on the late tours during new moon. That being said, inexperienced people who cannot control the kayak make it somewhat difficult for others who must navigate the two-way canal. Additionally, when also having to navigate the current, it becomes more physically taxing. So, if you have no experience or if you want to take small children (<13), I would suggest for the sake of others, to take some other daytime tour.
Response from Host , Aug 2022
Hi James_D,
Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it.
Here's what we always recommend: we strongly recommend to take the early tour for those adventurers with zero experience kayaking, zero experience in mangrove forest, families with small kids, guests afraid of the dark, and/or any guest that might feel insecure of his/her kayaking skills. This tour takes place at night, so it is expected to be dark. As you mentioned, from time to time the current will make you paddle harder.
All these recommendations are intended to enhance the experience of all the participants. For our professional crew, all guests are welcomed and we will gladly assist them every step of the tour.
Thank you for coming Mr. James_D!
Cordially,
PURE ADVENTURE'S TEAM

Beautiful to see but one unpleasant staff member
Vikram_S

Most of the staff was nice but there was one, Amari, who was rude. Kept shouting at us which made our trip unpleasant. We don’t kayak everyday and he expected us to be great at it. He went on to say how adults annoy him.
Response from Host , Jul 2022
Dear Vikram_S,
Thank you for your feedback. It is valuable and important for us so that we continue to offer a quality service. We deeply apologize for your experience. We want to let you know that we are working with the situation. Once again, thank you for your feedback and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Beyond my expectations
Yubin_L
, Jul 2022
It was beyond my expectations. I read a lot of reviews about bioluminescence tour, some says good, some says it was totally a prank, fed to mosquitoes 🦟. I was hesitant to go. But my friend told me that he saw the blue light and the kayak through the woods is fun. So I was thinking maybe I’ll just enjoy the kayak around the sunset.
We went on July 7th. The sunset was at 7:10pm, so we booked the tour at 6:30pm. Which turned out a very smart decision 😂because both of us don’t know how to kayak. It was a struggle at first. So it’s very lucky that when we started there was still day light for us to see the direction and figure out how to kayak.
Since a lot of people complain about mosquitoes, so I wore long pants, then I was shocked we need to walk into the water to get on kayak😂 but the good thing is the water is warm.
I saw blue lights when I stir the water with hands and feet. There were little sparkling ✨ on the pants if I pour some water on the the legs. It was absolutely beautiful and fantastic. We didn’t go around new moon, but the guide gave us a long cover over the kayaks to make sure we can see the lights in the darkness.
❗️Please don’t use too much bug spray on your hands or feet if you decide to put them into the water. There are tens of people set off every half hour, and different companies going into the same bay. If each one leave some bug spray in the little bay, which is devastating to the creatures there. Long pants and long sleeves will do.
Great experience, bucket list item

I had a great time kayaking through the mangrove paths out to the lagoon. The kayaking trip itself was worth it to me. I went on a full moon night so in order to see the plankton they did have to cover us with a tarp but it worked well. The plankton were beautiful and lit up when agitated. We were also able to have some free time in the lagoon, you could see the plankton in the darker areas without the tarp. A few people were upset they couldn't take photos, but if you've done your research you'd know that a normal camera or cell phone camera isn't capable of capturing the plankton. Definitely wear clothes u can get wet and water shoes.
AMAZING!!

This was a once in a lifetime experience. The tour guides are hilarious and informative. However, if your upper body not physically fit, it will be very tiring.
We kayaked through a narrow channel into the woods to get to the bay. Once we got to the bay, we all grouped together and they placed a tarp over us. We could really see the water glow like electricity!! It took my breath away. Beautiful. Even just kayaking in the dark was an experience on its own too.
Highly recommended

It was such a fun experience. I kayaked with my young kid (8-year old) and it was his first kayak experience. One of the tour guides was very kind and pulled us on the way out. It was a very kind gesture. My son had a blast and bragged about his bio bay experience with his friends. Bio bay experience was amazing after some rain, based on one of the tour guides that we had better chance to see the bioluminance after some rainfall. Highly recommend this tour.

Once in a lifetime experience
JENNIFER_K
, Jul 2022
This was a once in a lifetime experience so I highly recommend it. That being said, it was not exactly what we expected! We scheduled the 8 pm kayak tour, which turned into a start time of about 8:30 pm. To get to the kayaks, you wade into about waist deep water. You are in a double kayak and you get about a 3 minute intro for maneuvering the kayak together so if you are a planner (like me), do some YouTube videos in advance so you are a little more prepared. It is complete complete darkness at this time! You kayak through the narrow mangrove tunnel, careful to avoid oncoming kayaks and boats until you reach the open lagoon. It was stressful! When we reached the open bay, it was really awesome! That made it all worth it! Bring a change of clothes and a towel to leave in the car. Get there early to find parking. Personally, I wore a long sleeve rashguard and board shorts rather than a swim suit. It was late at night and while it was still warm out, it was more comfortable.
We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.

Sorting, ranking, and search results
Viator wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That’s why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.
On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You’ll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.
You’ll see some experiences with a “Promoted” badge, which means that the operators of those experiences have agreed to pay Viator more to have their experience highlighted.
If you see an Experience Award Winner label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Viator over a 12-month period.
The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We’re always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
