Overview

Go deeper into Newcastle’s rich history than on many other tours when you join this guided walk—although you’ll still stroll less than 2.5 miles (4 kilometers). Learn about the city’s history from the Iron Age to the present, alongside colorful characters such as Bessie Surtees. See bridges, monuments, religious buildings, a historic market, the old town wall and, of course, the castle, with plenty of photo opps too.
  • Discover Newcastle’s history on a comprehensive guided walking tour
  • Travel through time from before the Romans to the present day
  • Capture stunning river pictures from the High Level Bridge
  • Numbers are capped at just 15 travelers for a more intimate experience

Excellent knowledge from the guide, not too dry as peppered with brilliant stories and a really mixture of historic and more modern observations.

Guide was informative in selected areas but the tour was too static and skipped many key parts of the Newcastle story
icon Response from Host , Mar 2022
Thank you for leaving a review, Joyce. I'm sorry the tour was not entirely to your liking and I would like to hear more from you in order to hear what more you would have liked from Red Beard Tours. Would you please email me so we could discuss this further? Unfortunately, the tour currently ends at the castle due to the closure of the footpath over the High Level Bridge where the tour would have given more information about the Quayside and the famous bridges of Newcastle. The bridge has been closed by Newcastle Council and this is beyond my control, but other details have been added to the tour to ensure all customers get the full tour duration until the bridge reopens.

First time back in Newcastle for over 25 years and first time for my wife. A really excellent and knowledgeable tour from Rob he gave a great oversight of the city and he also throws in a bit of humor. This tour is a must for people new to the city. The 2.5 hours are well spent and you cover all the important points of the city. Not rushed Rob takes the time to explain each viewpoint. East walking as well. Take this tour people 😊
