Departure Time

7:00 AM
Spend a day away from Paris and visit the Normandy beaches where thousands of the Allied Powers’ troops landed to free France from Axis control during World War II. During your early-morning ride aboard an air-conditioned coach to northern France, your informative guide shares fascinating commentary on the events of June 6, 1944, better known as D-Day.

Begin at the Utah Beach Museum, housed in an original German bunker and constructed on the beach where the first American troops landed. Here, learn about Operation Overlord (the Allied codename for the Normandy Invasion) and the invaluable assistance from French citizens that made a difference in the war.

Utah Beach is now home to one of only six remaining original B-26 fighter planes that were used during the invasion. Look out onto breathtaking views of the beach from inside the museum before heading down to the beach itself.

Next, head out to the countryside to a 17th-century barn with a traditional cider-making orchard, and savor some of its cider and calvados (an apple-based brandy). With your appetite opened up, settle in for a 2-course lunch at a restaurant overlooking the port of Grandcamp-Maisy. (Lunch typically includes a main course of fish or meat, dessert, and a glass of cider.)

After your meal, your coach takes you to Pointe du Hoc, a cliff-top German defense the US troops heroically seized. Continue to Colleville-sur-Mer and pay your respects to the fallen at the American Cemetery.

From the cemetery, you can see Omaha Beach, one of the landing beaches where many American soldiers are buried. Inside the Omaha Beach Visitor Centre, gain insight into the landings that did not fare accordingly to plan.

Then, board your coach for return transport to your departure point in Paris.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Musee du Debarquement Utah Beach
You’ll join your expert guide in Paris aboard a comfortable, private coach. On the way to Normandy, learn the details of the Allied preparations for D-Day, the largest amphibious assault in history. Your guide, a fluent English-speaker, will stay with you throughout the tour to tell the story of the operation and answer questions from history buffs and curious minds. On Utah Beach, your first stop, the Allies quickly defeated the German forces. You’ll visit an extraordinary D-Day museum housed in an old German bunker on the landing beach itself. The collection here brings home both the scale and the personal sacrifice involved in the operation, with an original B-26 airplane on display along with collections of soldiers’ letters home.

Stop At:
Office de Tourisme intercommunal de Grandcamp-Maisy
Next, experience some of the culture and traditions of Normandy. Many Allied soldiers found shelter with local farmers. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to tour one, featuring a 17th-century barn, locally-made apple cider and traditional apple brandy. Lunch is served at a restaurant in a quiet port nearby.

Stop At:
Pointe du Hoc
After your meal, your coach takes you to Pointe du Hoc. From Pointe du Hoc, you’ll get a sense of the challenges the Allies faced, with views of the English Channel – and intimidating cliffs blocking access inland. Cliffs combined with enemy fire to make the landing at Omaha Beach a desperate battle for survival.

Stop At:
Cimetiere Americain de Colleville-sur-Mer
We’ll also have the opportunity to pay our respects to the fallen at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. The cemetery is located on a bluff that overlooks Omaha Beach, which was one of the landing beaches of the D-Day invasion. Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., son of President Theodore Roosevelt and a Medal of Honor recipient, is buried here together with the almost 10,000 soldiers who sacrificed their lives. Your guide will use the time spent driving to provide enriching commentary and answer questions, preparing you for each stop on the tour. You'll have time to look around the cemetery, visit the wall of the missing and awe-inspiring memorial, and look down upon Omaha, the beach where the Allies faced the stiffest resistance and suffered the most casualties. The journey back to Paris gives you time to reflect on all you’ve seen – and the tremendous courage and sacrifice of those who fought here.

Just the 2 of us

Great trip to Normandy and really enjoyed the stop at the Cider Farm. Got to the meeting point and we were the only 2 people. Once agin Viator didn’t disappoint. The 2 of us had a great private tour. With everything going on with Covid I wouldn’t have been surprised if they canceled but they took just the 2 of us. They did what they promised.

Very Disappointing

My wife and I reserved and paid for this trip months ago. We received a confirmation email and text the day before that our trip was a go. We showed up the morning of the trip only to find out that it was cancelled. No explanation or apology. Very disappointing.

Great introduction tour

Great tour to get a taste of Normandy. The guide was very helpful and knowledgeable, the commentary given on route was great. This is a relatively fast pace tour but you get to see so much in an afternoon. The transportation was comfortable given the four drive each way.

Good overall

It was a long day, but we knew what we were getting into. The guide had a great understanding of the history of D-Day, and she would fill the long bus rides with her commentary. We wish we could have had more time at the stops, but we understood that we had very limited time constraints due to traveling to and from Paris. Overall a good experience!

Great War Sites, Poor Quality Lunch
Joy_G
, Dec 2021
While the tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable, we felt shorted on our time at Omaha Beach & the American Cemetery. We spent longer at a family cider business than we had at the Cemetery and Omaha Beach, which was extremely disappointing. We would have preferred to cut out the cider business stop completely and have time at the D Day related stops, which was the whole reason for the tour. Additionally, the lunch is awful—gas station quality of food at best. The town (Maisy) had plenty of restaurants that looked full of people and we pulled up to a sad looking shopping center restaurant that had no customers and looked out of business. Food was very poor quality and only meal we had that day. Either consider changing restaurants or give an option to pay a lower fee for lunch to not be included (had we known about the bad food at lunch we would’ve brought a sack lunch with us). The upside was convenience of coach bus travel from/to Paris-Normandy, visiting the awe inspiring war sites and the upbeat tour guide.

This was a very informative and memorable experience. Our tour guide, Addie, did an excellent job of keeping us moving so we could fully experience all that the tour had to offer. Definitely a must-see if you are a WWII enthusiast.

An experience worth the long day

Lunch was actually quite delicious, and our guide gave a detailed history of the area and conflicts surrounding the visit. The day is long but the meeting point is easily accessible. Both the guide and driver got us to all points of the tour and kept us on time.
