Overview

Many visitors to France make time to visit both the Palace of Versailles and Monet's Impressionist garden at Giverny. This day trip from Paris allows you to do both. First, wander through the lush landscape around the artist’s residence, which served as inspiration for his Nymphéas (Water Lilies) series. After lunch, head to Versailles and visit Louis XIV's lavish royal palace. On particular dates, you see the fountains on display.
  • Save time and combine two top attractions in one day, by coach from Paris
  • Stroll through Monet's inspirational garden at Giverny and learn from your guide
  • Tour the royal apartments at the Palace of Versailles and marvel at a display of the fountains (seasonal)
  • Lunch at a picturesque restaurant on the banks of the Epte River

This activity will end right where it started.
Leave Paris for a full-day tour of two of the most popular day trip destinations outside the French capital, Louis XIV's Palace of Versailles and Monet's garden in Giverny.

Your first stop is Giverny, where Impressionist master Claude Monet lived from 1883 until his death in 1926. Walk across the Japanese bridge and gaze upon the water lily pond while you stroll the gardens that surround his former home. This picturesque landscape was the inspiration for many of his most famous paintings, including the Nymphéas series.

After a guided tour of Monet's gardens, it's time for a hearty lunch at the Moulin de Fourges. This 18th-century mill, inspired by the Queen's Hamlet, has been transformed into a restaurant and inn. From there, continue by coach to Versailles.

The opulent décor at the Palace of Versailles—once the extravagant home of King Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette—includes the Hall of Mirrors and the Royal Grand Apartments. On your guided tour, try to imagine daily life for the royal family. Then enjoy some free time in the World Heritage-listed Versailles Gardens and wander among the groves, sculptures, and fountains. On particular days, from April to October, they are part of a musical Fountains Show; if you're lucky you'll see this special display (cost included), set to the tunes of Louis XIV's era, before your day trip concludes with travel back to Paris.

The trip to Giverny was wonderful. The Versailles trip was ok but heavy on the history of the palace and not enough time to visit and enjoy the gardens.

The best tour I’ve ever been on!

We had an amazing tour guide who spoke French, English, and Spanish very well. She was very informed about each place we visited and was always around to help with anything. We loved Giverny as it was a day with predicted rain, but it didn’t end up raining at all while we were there. The gardens were quiet and pretty large which made it feel not as crowded as other touristy attractions. The lunch was a short bus ride away and the food there was amazing. Each group had their own separate table to eat with their family. The Versailles Palace was an amazing way to end the tour. We had a short guided tour inside the Palace, and then we were allowed to roam free in the gardens or palace until we had to meet up with our group to travel back to Paris. Overall an amazing tour! (P.S. we couldn’t remember the spelling of our guide but it sounded like Nadine/Nadalie)

Monet’s garden was a great tour at our own pace, however the greatness stopped there. The tour guide told us to meet in front of Monet’s house at a certain time, multiple couples including ourselves were standing there at the time she mentioned and she was a no show. We then realized she wasn’t coming, so we had to find the way back to the bus (which we wouldn’t have done had one of the people not paid attention on the walk to Monet’s place from the bus). The guide acted like it was our fault and kept mentioning how now we are late because of it. However, clearly multiple people heard the same thing so I’m not sure who didn’t show.. the lunch was average at best. Our favourite part was the dessert. When we got to Versailles she took up so much time in the palace she hardly gave us any time to explore the gardens outside, we felt very rushed and like the inside tour could’ve been much shorter had she summarized.

The tour of Monet’s gardens and home. Then we had a delicious lunch at the old mill by the water fall. Following the lunch we drove through the French countryside to Versailles. Our guide was great narrating the history of Versailles and a very pleasant person. Most enjoyable tours! Would highly recommend!

No Forgiveness for Health Emergencies

We had to take our daughter to the hospital for an emergency the day of this event. I did not want to cancel, but wanted to at least try to reschedule. I got on the Viator site and tried every way to contact my guide or anyone to try and work something out. I was even willing to share hospital documentation. I was flat told no. I know for a fact that others have been given options even within the 24 hours, but we were not. I didn’t even want a refund- just a new day, and I know spaces open every day. So disappointed.

This tour was one of our best experiences in France. We looked forward to Versailles Palace and were not disappointed. Our guide was very knowledgeable but could have shared less information to keep us moving quicker at both sites. The Monet House was one of our favorite tours. It was a stunning experience to be where Monet lived and showed us how in real life to understand his inspiration via his gardens. Lunch was very good and picturesque.

Monet's house and gardens were beautiful. Lunch was great! Unfortunately, we had very little time at Versailles and our guide spent way too much time talking and we did not make it thru more than 5 rooms. He had no concept of our little time and we never made it to the garden's because of a torrential rainstorm. I know he had no control of the weather but we had no idea where he was or the bus. We were misinformed of where our bus was parked and ended up getting hailed on while running thru the parking lot. Several people from our group were stranded in between busses trying to find ours. Versailles was a complete bust for our group, was not planned out well. Would not combine these tours, not enough time.

We had a wonderful tour guide Elizabeth. We really enjoyed her and all the information she provided. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that we were rushed at Versailles. I wish we had 1 more hour there.

We really enjoyed our visit to Giverny and our nice lunch. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and easy to understand. The Versailles portion felt very rushed and of course was very crowded. Still the tour guide was exceptional.

Giverny was beautiful, but due to some people returning back to the bus late from Giverny, we did not have time to see the gardens at Versailles. The palace tour was nice, but I do regret not being able to see the gardens.

The trip was amazing. Directions to the meeting location we helpful. The bus was very comfortable. Even though it was pouring rain during our Giverney visit, the grounds were beautiful. The lunch included was so good, and there are vegetarian options. The visit to Versailles was amazing. The tour provided by the guide was informative and just the right amount of information.

Giverny was lovely and Versailles was beautiful. Lunch was very nice. But the amount of time we had in Versailles was extremely limited, and made even more so by a 30-40 minute delay in getting tickets. This left us with a lot less time to see the palace and virtually no time in the gardens. Very disappointing
