Leave the city by comfortable coach, and journey into Iceland’s countryside to search for the Northern Lights.

En route, listen as your guide explains the science behind the extraordinary natural phenomenon, also known as the Aurora Borealis. Learn about the Icelandic myths that have grown up around the spectacle, and how the fluorescent lights are formed by electrically charged particles in the Earth’s atmosphere.

Leave Reykjavik far behind, and head into an area free from any urban light pollution—the darker the skies, the better the chances of getting a good view of the lights.

Hop out of the coach at select locations with your camera in hand and scan the skies, with pointers from your guide. If you’re lucky, be treated to a display and gaze at the shimmering veils of fluorescent lights as they dance and move across the sky.

If you’re keen to get shots, get tips from your guide on how to set up your camera and take good quality photos. Sightings can’t be guaranteed, but if you don’t observe the lights, you receive a complimentary ticket to take the evening tour on another day.

After your evening spent looking for the lights, return to Reykjavik where your tour finishes with a hotel drop-off.

A site to see.

We got to see the northern lights even as we arrived to the location. It was very cool. The guide was knowledgeable of the area. He knew his science too.

We thought that the lights would be brighter. It was very cold and the experience was ok but less than we hoped for.
Lack of facilities
, Oct 2021
Get to where they believe lights will show but there is nothing to do while you are waiting. No seats or shelter or facilities for getting a hot drink. So you sit on the bus in the dark and wait for the lights which didn't show on our trip.
Tour is as expected but could be a little spiced up!

We didn't see the Northern Lights but that was ok - we expected this anyway. The tour was fine, the pick-up was easy and coach was comfortable and lots of space, but the tour guide did not really do much to talk to guests. There is a lot of waiting around with this tour (expected - not a problem) but I thought the guide could have done a little bit more to fill the time with knowledge or history etc. Still, I felt it was good value and we are glad we did it.

Bus was 30mins late and it was cold waiting plus you are asked to be at the bus stop 30mins early so it was a 1 hour wait while we were waiting we seen the northern lights and then never seen them on the tour due to cloud coverage
Northern Lights experience

After a little confusion with my reservation we made the journey to our destination. The guide explains how the lights are formed along the way. He thought the lights would be a 4 but unfortunately they were not. He told us we could rebook another night up to two years. I think it is very generous of the company because they can’t guarantee how the lights will be. Not easy to see with the eye but you could see the bands of green in the photos. I loved looking at all the beautiful stars and hearing the crashing of the waves. Dress warm because it is windy and cold.

Whereas I know seeing the Northern Lights is hit and miss and out of human control, we didn't see them tonight. However it does make me wonder when drivers from other excursions say they haven't seen the lights for 2 weeks and weather conditions haven't changed, as to whether the operator should be selling tickets at all- if the conditions aren't conducive with viewing them is this just a bit of a con! No chance of reusing as not enough time left.
